There is an EVENT coming up Friday, February 14th 2003 - it is St. Valentine's Day...
It is a day dedicated to sending cards, showing LOVE, sharing AFFECTION, letting people know that you CARE about them. The EVENT that I am talking about is NOT THIS part of the Traditional Valentine's Day - My Partner and myself have been MOVED by a "CALL to ACTION" put out by the Founder and Moderator of the Metropolitan Community Churches - Rev. Troy D. Perry. He & his partner, Phillip Ray DeBlieck will go to a courthouse in Los Angeles & apply for a marriage license. What does this have to do with HATE MONGERS?? |

My Partner & I were inspired by the words of Rev. Troy Perry. We, along with over 500 of other Gay & Lesbian couples are going to go to our towns' Public Courthouse & apply for a MARRIANGE LICENSE. WE, JUST LIKE ANY HETEROSEXUAL COUPLE, LOVE & ARE DEDICATED TO THE PARTNER THAT THE LORD HAS LED US TOO. When I proposed to my Partner, Stephen, we decided that we wanted to do all that we could to show our dedication & love for each other. We are going to have a HOLY UNION in our Columbus Ohio Church - New Creation Metropolitan Community Church. Then we saw the inspirational Call To Action by Rev. Perry. WE ALSO are going to go to our Country Courthouse & apply for a Marriage License. Yes, we WILL be turned away, Yes, it is NOT LEGAL |

Ridiculed, & even called names.....possibly even WORSE. It may even be that the "SO-CALLED" "Religious" RIGHT WING may show up at the Courthouse as well. But, if they do, we need to show TO THEM the VERY LOVE OF GOD THAT THEY ARE DENYING US. Thus my comment about HATE MONGERS. Several papers locally, & WBNS-TV's Andrea Cambern (God Bless Her!) have been notified of our intentions. So as we go to confirm our Love for each other, as most Heterosexual Couples do, we may be met with HATE, & VILE ABUSE. I pray we will be up to the challenge. We are trying to demonstrate to our Government the INEQUITIES of the existing Marriage Laws concerning those of us in the GLBT Community. A LAW THAT IS NOT EQUAL TO ALL, IS A LAW THAT IS NOT EQUAL AT ALL!!!! I am not talking about the latest Fundamentalist Buzz Word "SPECIAL RIGHTS", I am talking about Equal, Same, Equivalent, Comparable Rights to a large section of the populace. |

As a former PENTECOSTAL for over 30 years, I can understand the virtually overcoming desire to SPREAD the WORD OF GOD, & even the Passionate Desire to SEE PEOPLE COME TO KNOW JESUS, but in all of my years of Pentecostal Experience, & my Religious Journey, I have never been able to ACCEPT or TAKE PART in the UNSCRIPTURAL, UNGODLY, & TRULY UNCHRIST-LIKE BEHAVIOUR OF THOSE CLAIMING TO BE 'LIKE CHRIST' & YET SPEWING HATE, VENOMOUS CURSES & PRONOUNCING DAMNATION TO PEOPLE THAT HAPPEN TO BE "DIFFERENT". PEOPLE have WRONGLY used the WORDS OF THE BIBLE TO JUSTIFY SLAVERY, OPPRESSION OF WOMEN, & HATRED OF BLACKS - but does this fulfill the command of JESUS CHRIST to Love One Another??
